MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Relentlessly Red: Review & Swatch

MAC is always coming out with new collections every few weeks, making it really difficult to keep track of what's what. I like to check out the counter periodically when my fancy strikes, or if there's a particular promotion out (but that's few and far between). One of these said collections is the Retro Matte collection. Supposedly there's a popular shade with in this formulation that makes it special. Don't ask me the details. Of the collection, the one that stood out to me was Relentlessly Red.

As with all MAC lipsticks, it has a slight vanilla sent that's not too sweet or cloying. It's a matte shade as sexpected so it's best to have balm or some sort of moisturizer underneath. It takes a little bit of work to apply on the lips, but once there it stays put. It's not too drying on the lips either, which is a definite bonus. Lasting power is longer than average since it is a matte shade.

Swatches

The following are swatches on the hand and lips. It's a matte shade of a red with a pinky/coral undertone. I think it's a great shade to transition between summer and fall. Not too vampy, but still a pretty red.

Bottom Line: I generally have a love/hate relationship with matte lipsticks since it can be drying, but this is a great shade. Not too drying and generally comfortable to wear for a matte. If you don't like this shade, there are others in the collection that might be better suited for you.
