OPI Pepe's Purple Passion: Review & Swatches

Another polish for Mani Monday is OPI Pepe's Purple Passion. Now this is an "oldie, but a goodie" category of polish since it came out in a collection from way back when (maybe fall/winter 2011?). I found it randomly at Ulta this last summer, and past collections of OPI polishes are a little easier to find in my opinion. For example, you can go here.

This is a type of color that's pretty all the time, but I find it especially nice in the cooler months. Although where I am is nowhere near being cool, but I'm going with the assumption that you live in a place with four seasons. Pepe's Purple Passion, much like the misguided skunk it's named after (this is from the Muppet Collection), is a purple based reddish plum color with hints of shimmering flakies that are either pink, gold, or purple depending on the light. The base color swatches darker on the nails. The flakies reminds me of the hearts that emanate from Pepe le Pew. The only gripe I have about the polish is that these beautiful flakies don't transfer as well on the nails. It's just not as noticeable for whatever reason. However, it does apply beautifully on the nails. There are no weird edges or textural issues. It lasts above average for me on the nails as well.

Swatches

Two coats of polish with the usual top coat. As you can see from swatch pics, the flakies aren't as noticeable once on the nails.

Bottom Line: Despite the fact that the flakies aren't as noticeable once on the nails, I actually still think the polish is pretty. Is it the most unique? Probably not (since the flakies get lost in the translation). If you want a nice burgundy/plum shade, and don't mind the hassle of hunting this down, then go for it. Otherwise, try looking in the permanent collection for a similar shade.
